HEALTHY STREAMS
October 2020
The Healthy Streams project is working hard to give Stoke's Poorman Valley Stream some overdue care and attention.
The project, sponsored by Nelson city Council, hopes to create a walking trail along the length of the stream. A Field Guide has been developed and added to the NCC website which carefully plots Poorman Stream's route from its source, past the Nayland schools and to the ocean. Some great kiddy-friendly resources have been developed, bringing to life the huge array of flora and fauna in our streams. Over the next few weeks, children from Stoke schools will be creating little whariki (woven patterns) and learning about caring for our waterways. The whariki will be displayed at Greenmeadows over summer.
